Book: Animalia Paradoxa, 2019
Book: Animalia Paradoxa, 2019
IN 1735 Carl Linnæus published his landmark work Systema Naturæ, which situated some ten thousand animal and plant species in a taxonomic system, still in use today. Creatures described in prior works of natural science, but whose existence Linnæus had reasons to doubt, were excluded from the taxonomy and listed under the rubric Animalia Paradoxa. This book depicts a selection of Linnæus’s paradoxical creatures.
